Manchester United fans react as Angel Gomes strikes late winner against Tottenham

[ad_pod ]

Whilst Manchester United’s off-the-pitch activities have stalled slightly in recent weeks, there can be no question that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have had a rather fruitful pre-season on the pitch.

The Red Devils have reeled off victory after victory, and have done so thanks to in small part to their talented young players. Mason Greenwood has undeniably been the stand-out performer so far, but against Tottenham on Thursday, it was Angel Gomes’ chance to shine.

The 18-year-old was on hand to fire home a late winner and give United a 2-1 victory over Spurs in the International Champions Cup, and the goal saw many Red Devils fans take to Twitter to voice their delight.

After seeing Gomes’ goal, United supporters urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to start the teenager ahead of the likes of Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata next season, and revealed their excitement at seeing him in action for the first-team.

Indeed, some insisted that Gomes was the “future” of the side and hoped the club would give him a new contract.

Tottenham fans delighted with Japhet Tanganga form

[ad_pod ]

Japhet Tanganga has been heavily involved in Tottenham Hotspur’s preparations for the 2019-20 campaign.

And it would be fair to say that the 20-year-old has impressed a whole host of Spurs supporters with his performances ahead of the new season.

The centre-back was a half-time replacement for Juan Foyth during the Audi Cup semi-final against Real Madrid on Tuesday.

And Tanganga helped his side pick up a clean sheet to ensure that Mauricio Pochettino’s team would advance to the final courtesy of a 1-0 win, with Harry Kane ultimately scoring the only goal of the match.

It remains to be seen whether the London-born ace is given the opportunity to make his mark for the first team during the 2019-20 season.

West Ham have no interest in either Danny Welbeck or Daniel Sturridge

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

West Ham United have no interest in signing either Daniel Sturridge or Danny Welbeck on free transfers this summer, per ClaretandHugh.

What’s the word?

The two strikers are available after leaving Liverpool and Arsenal respectively.

However, both players have had significant injury problems throughout their careers – Sturridge missed a total of 99 games at Liverpool, while Welbeck was absent for 123 matches at Arsenal.

And ClaretandHugh insists that the Hammers have no desire to sign two players with significant fitness woes.

History-bucking move

West Ham would have fallen hook, line and sinker for this a couple of seasons ago.

They have signed the likes of Samir Nasri, Alvaro Arbeloa, Ashley Fletcher and Jack Wilshere in recent transfer windows purely because they were available.

Now, of course, Wilshere may well turn out to be a masterstroke but the other three ranged from average to absolutely terrible.

It could have been a similar story with either Welbeck or Sturridge.

They are both recognisable names who have played for big clubs despite having significant baggage.

Previously, the Irons would have taken them on regardless; that they are bucking the trend is a positive step ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

West Ham attacker Andriy Yarmolenko should be in contention for Brighton start

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Despite his long absence because of injury last season, it was still something of a surprise to see West Ham United attacker Andriy Yarmolenko fail to make the matchday squad for the opening day Premier League clash against Manchester City.

The Ukraine international looks set to battle with the likes of Michail Antonio, Felipe Anderson, Manuel Lanzini and Robert Snodgrass for a spot out wide in manager Manuel Pellegrini’s preferred 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-4-1 formations this term.

He deployed the former against the English top flight holders at the weekend with Antonio and Anderson taking their places on the wing, and new boy Pablo Fornals forced to sit among the substitutes.

Three attack-minded players made up the rest of the 18 in the form of Fornals, Snodgrass and Javier Hernandez, with Yarmolenko and Arthur Masuaku among those to miss out completely.

Doubts may have been raised about whether the duo had picked up knocks before the visit of the Citizens, but the respected Claret & Hugh confirmed that they had been omitted for selection reasons, with others preferred on the substitutes’ bench ahead of them.

That competition is only going to increase too, with recent summer arrival Albian Ajeti looking to make his mark.

Yarmolenko made a decent enough start to his career in England with two goals – both away against Everton – and one assist in nine Premier League outings before he suffered a ruptured Achilles in against Tottenham in October 2018.

It was an injury that kept him out of action until the summer, and now he will surely be determined to regain his spot and prove that he can be a big player for West Ham.

Even though he was excluded by his manager last time out, the 29-year-old should be back and vying for a starting spot for the visit to Brighton this weekend.

While Anderson – who appears to be ok having been forced off against City himself after picking up a niggle – is probably almost guaranteed a spot in the XI due to his price tag, the fact that Antonio was hooked at half-time suggests he is in danger of losing his place on the right.

Realistically, Snodgrass and Yarmolenko are the only out-and-out wide players who could come in and replace him, and the latter should fancy his chances of getting the nod even after what happened just a few days ago.

Two-Footed Talk | Neymar quits PSG – Top 3 players who forced transfers away

Neymar wants out of PSG and he’s not exactly being professional about it! Check out 3 other players tried to force a transfer away in the video below…

137 goals and 90 assists in 340 matches for Dynamo Kiev, as per Transfermarkt, show exactly what he is capable of in the final third, and he is undoubtedly someone who can hurt the Seagulls on Saturday with Mario Husillos saying when the club signed him last summer how he is “fast on the counter-attack”.

If he can take his opportunity to impress Pellegrini in training this week, he is the one who should be starting above any of his competitors at the Amex.

Arsenal fans call for Mesut Ozil to start against Liverpool

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal face the first true test of their credentials this season against Liverpool on Saturday.

The Gunners will travel to Anfield this weekend, and Unai Emery may have some big decisions to make in regards to his line-up for the match.

He has at least received some good news in the build-up to the game, as it has been confirmed that Mesut Ozil, along with Granit Xhaka, has returned to full training.

Is the Arsenal player in the video below the man Liverpool should fear most on Saturday?…

The former Germany international has not played since the Europa League final in June, and is not a popular figure at the Emirates Stadium. He has often received criticism from fans in the past for his performances.

However, not all of the north London outfit’s fans are against him. There are still some who believe he can do a job, and there are several supporters who have called for him to start against Liverpool this weekend.

They have been vocal on Twitter, and you can check out some of the best comments below.

Real Madrid fans would be happy to let Vinicius Junior go if it meant the arrival of Neymar

The Neymar saga is finally reaching its conclusion, one way or the other.

The latest reports, however, have slightly complicated things for Real Madrid, who seem to be behind in this huge race against their bitter rivals, Barcelona. AS reported that the only way Los Blancos would potentially make this deal happen is if they included Vinicius Junior in the exchange.

The young £63m-rated 19-year-old only arrived in Madrid last year and it would be difficult to see Florentino Perez part with his prised youngster already.

But if the social media activity is anything to go by, it seems that the Real Madrid fans would gladly accept this deal if it really meant the arrival of Neymar to the Spanish capital.

Below, you can see a collection of tweets that show how some of the Real Madrid fans feel about their young prodigy and how they feel about this reported deal to bring one Brazilian to Santiago Bernabeu by sacrificing the other.

Everton summer signing Djibril Sidibe has been a little underwhelming so far

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Marco Silva’s transfer record as Everton manager has, on the whole, been largely successful, but one newcomer is yet to get going yet.

The Portuguese manager has made improvements to the Everton squad in both defence and attack since his arrival, and he has used the funds at his disposal to add strength in depth throughout the squad.

One player the Toffees brought in over the summer who is yet to make his mark is Djibril Sidibe, after he signed on a season-long loan from Monaco on transfer deadline day.

The right-back arrived with a good pedigree, having earned 18 caps for France and made 19 appearances in the Champions League, reaching the quarter-final in 2017 and knocking out Manchester City along the way.

However, there have been notable disappointments already despite it being less than a month since he signed.

Firstly, he arrived injured and missed Everton’s first two games of the season, which is less than ideal if he was intended to be cover for Coleman, who only returned from a serious leg break earlier this year.

Things haven’t worked out on the pitch yet either, and he could struggle to dislodge the Irishman from the team. Coleman has been able to bring out the best in Richarlison, providing a base for him to venture forward into the box whilst also ensuring safety at the back, with two clean sheets in four league games so far.

Richarlison’s three goals this season show the pair have continued their effective partnership from the end of last season, and if Sidibe doesn’t get up and running soon then he could find his chances limited.

Silva handed him his debut away at Lincoln in the League Cup, and although Sincil Bank can be a tough environment to visit, a French international should really be performing better than Sidibe did.

He was at fault for the first goal – which was conceded after a matter of seconds – and fans didn’t appear overly impressed on Twitter.

It’s clearly still early days, but it would be accurate to describe him as underwhelming so far. Everton fans and management alike could be thankful that he wasn’t signed on a permanent basis unless a big improvement is shown.

Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani could be gone in a year, hints Adam Pope

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking to the Talking Shutt podcast this week, Adam Pope has laid down a huge claim about a potential takeover at Leeds, explaining how long Andrea Radrizzani may last at the club.

What’s he said?

The Leeds hierarchy have made some major plays this week in terms of extending the contracts of three of their key players.

Kalvin Phillips first put pen to paper, ending speculation that saw him linked with three Premier League sides over the summer. Meanwhile, Stuart Dallas and Liam Cooper also extended their stays.

But investment of this type, certainly from Radrizzani may not last too much longer.

That’s according to BBC Radio Leeds commentator Pope who appearing on the Talking Shutt podcast explained he may be gone in the next year. He said:

“He [Angus Kinnear] said selling is not on the cards, but I believe they’re still looking for money to come in.

“My issue would be if you’re getting more investment you’re going to fracture the ownership. You’ve got the 49ers, Andrea, then somebody else. For me, ruling by committee doesn’t work.

“I thought there was potential he [Radrizzani] might have sold up last season but with being top of the league it was clear he wanted to stay.

“Leeds is a beast that needs feeding and it’s tough for them to make money. How long can he go on for? Another year maybe.”

Promotion or bust?

Radrizzani’s time at the club has come with success. Appointing Marcelo Bielsa last season was a masterstroke that saw Leeds end their time in mid-table obscurity and finish in the playoffs.

A similar sort of term appears to be on the cards in 2019/20. The Whites currently sit third in the table and that’s largely thanks to the increased wage bill that Kinnear spoke about with the BBC last week.

The fact is that if Leeds don’t get promoted this season then arguably, Radrizzani may either have to sell a percentage of his stake of leave completely.

Achieving a place in the Premier League comes with a huge financial gain, £170m in fact.

That would be a considerable boost to a club like Leeds, especially as Pope explains that it’s difficult for them to make money.

The fact they had to sell Pontus Jansson partly for financial fair play reasons in the summer is more evidence of that final claim.

Leeds would be wise to keep tabs on possible future investors but it would make sense if Radrizzani stays if they go up.
