With a forcing cut off David Wainwright for four, Mark Ramprakash finally became the 25th man in history to score 100 first-class hundreds when he notched three figures for Surrey against Yorkshire. The last player to achieve the milestone was Graeme Hick, in 1998, and the other 23 names include the grand figures of WG Grace, Don Bradman, Denis Compton and Wally Hammond. For all Ramprakash’s remarkable form since 2006, he has struggled this season: his last hundred, the 99th of his career, came at the start of May against Sussex. Today’s knock was his 11th innings since hovering on a mere 99 hundreds, during which agonising time his top-score was 48.The wait is now over, however, as Ramprakash reached his third century of the season from 196 balls with nine fours and a six.”When I started out I never dreamed about making that many hundreds but I’ll certainly take it now,” he said. “I feel honoured to join such a high calibre of names who have also achieved the feat. It’s definitely something I’ll cherish for the rest of my days. I’d like to dedicate this to my mum, dad, sister, wife and daughters.”Without their love and support I could not have achieved this milestone.”Ramprakash starred in a second-wicket stand of 259 with Scott Newman and remained unbeaten on 112 as the match petered out into a dull, but far from insignificant, draw.

Gers fans rage at comments on Morelos

Glasgow Rangers fans are livid with comments made on Clyde Superscoreboard in regards to star striker Alfredo Morelos.

It has already been a busy summer for 25-year-old Morelos. The forward has been away at the Copa America with Colombia, and stayed with the side until the penultimate day of the tournament as his country finished third. The former HJK Helsinki man has also been heavily linked with a move away from Ibrox, with Porto in particular interested in his services (A Bola).

Clyde radio had been discussing the striker’s return to Glasgow, and they got some vital bits of information wrong, it seems. Not only did they says Morelos is not yet back in Glasgow – he is – they also said he had finished international duty before before Filip Helander and Borna Barisic, which was also false.

The supporters, it seems, were far from happy with the misinformation, and they took to social media platform Twitter to share their thoughts on the mainstream media (MSM).

Let’s see what the fans had to say about the Morelos comments below

Wolves linked with Rafael Leao

Wolves are reportedly interested in signing AC Milan forward Rafael Leao this summer as Bruno Lage looks to make his mark on the first team squad at Molineux.

What’s the story?

According to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (as reported by Sport Witness), the Italian giants will either sell Leao or Jens Petter Hauge over the coming months, with a €15m (£13m) asking price mooted for the Portuguese striker.

The report added that there have been some discussions between the two clubs, while Wolves could once again be aided by super-agent Jorge Mendes, who represents the 22-year-old.

Imagine him and Jimenez

Wolves’ extensive collection of Portuguese talent has been well documented in recent years, and they could be about to add another highly-rated young Iberian star to their ranks.

Leao moved to San Siro from Lille back in 2019 for a substantial fee after impressing in Ligue 1, and his standout performances drew extreme praise from his former Sporting Lisbon manager Tiago Fernandes.

Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb in August 2019, Fernandes compared Leao to the Brazilian Ronaldo and claimed that he was capable of playing for any top club in Europe, saying:  “He reminds me of Ronaldo, the ‘Phenomenon’, for speed, technique and quality in the decisive part of the action. Rafael has the talent to play for Real Madrid, Barcelona, all the best European clubs.”

However, the 22-year-old has struggled to find his best form in Serie A. In 40 appearances for the Rossoneri last term, Leao bagged seven goals and provided a further six assists for his teammates, a respectable return but not a mind-blowing one either.

He has done enough to showcase his top-class potential, though, and a switch to Wolves could be the perfect move for the youngster’s development.

The Midlands outfit have developed a reputation for being an extremely effective counter-attacking team during their three-year stay in the Premier League, so Leao could be a natural fit for their system.

His natural pace and power would compliment Raul Jimenez’s heading and finishing ability perfectly, potentially forming a dream duo at Molineux next season.

Gold makes behind-scenes Bale claim at Spurs

Speaking in a football.london Q&A, reliable correspondent and Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has made a behind the scenes claim on Gareth Bale.

The Lowdown: Spurs signing Bale permanently?

After spending the 2020/2021 campaign on loan at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, there is still the begging question as to whether the Lilywhites will make his move permanent.

Bale finished the campaign as Spurs’ third top goalscorer in the Premier League, bagging 11 strikes and two assists, with only superstar men Harry Kane and Son Heung-min bettering those numbers.

As such, Tottenham have been linked with a possible swoop for the 31-year-old and supporters want to know if he could remain in north London.

The Latest: Gold makes behind-scenes Bale claim…

Speaking in a Q&A, when asked for the latest on Bale’s situation, Gold made a behind the scenes claim on what the belief is within Tottenham.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-updates-2/” title=”Spurs latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

He claims that Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival at parent club Real Madrid complicates matters and the general consensus is that he will see out the final year of his deal at the Bernabeu.

“I’d like him to return for another season but there seems to be a belief within Spurs that he will return to Madrid for the final year of his contact and with Ancelotti there it makes more sense than it did a few months ago,” Gold explained.

“The only obstacle would be whether Real want him off the wage bill, or at least some of those huge wages, but Bale is not exactly someone who cares what people think.”

The Verdict: Turn away…

New managing director Fabio Paratici has some major decisions to make in regards to Tottenham’s summer transfer plans and one of them is whether to push for Bale on a permanent deal.

Amid this Gold claim, we believe it should not be a priority given his age, high salary demands and the fact Spurs are in dire need of centre-back reinforcements.

The Lilywhites won’t exactly have unlimited funds to play with and re-signing Bale on a permanent deal comes as a luxury, not a necessity, when compared to Tottenham’s other areas which need strengthening.

SAFC fans love O’Nien news

Sunderland fans were delighted as the club confirmed Luke O’Nien has signed a new contract at the club.

The Black Cats face a big season this term. Last time out, they appeared to be on the verge of automatic promotion to the Championship, but they went on a poor run of form towards the end of the season and were eventually left to fight it out in the play-offs, where they lost to Lincoln City in the semi-finals.

The north-east outfit have seen several players leave during the off-season, such as Josh Scowen, Grant Leadbitter, Max Power and Charlie Wyke, but there is now at least some good news in regards to O’Nien. On Tuesday morning, Sunderland confirmed he has put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at the Stadium of Light until 2024 (safc.com).

The news was shared on Twitter by Sunderland’s official account, and it attracted plenty of attention from the supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Celtic still interested in Ali McCann

Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge of Celtic will be an interesting one to oversee.

The Hoops are no longer the dominant force in Scottish football as they find themselves caught up in a huge transition period.

What’s the word?

The ongoing window will be absolutely imperative to Postecoglou who will be keen to hit the ground running.

He’s already identified a number of defenders alongside his recruitment team, but with Scott Brown departing for Aberdeen, they need new faces in midfield as well.

According to Alan Nixon, the Bhoys are still interested in securing a deal to bring Ali McCann to Parkhead.

The St Johnstone midfielder was one of the best young talents in the Premiership last term and as a result, has found no shortage of suitors.

Nixon claims that Stoke are keen on signing the 21-year-old, while Swansea and Hull are also attracted by the idea of acquiring him.

Must sign

With Celtic stuck in a rut, they could do with planning for the future and bringing through some younger talent.

McCann would tick all of the boxes in that regard, particularly after his form in 2020/21.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-celtic-transfer-news-posetcoglou-ryan-delap-wyke” title= “Read the latest Celtic transfer news!”]

Celtic are thought to have scouted him on a number of occasions and they must have been impressed with what they saw.

After all, the midfielder was among the nominees for the PFA Young Player of the Year beside David Turnbull.

Last term, he showcased a plethora of attributes that would ensure a seamless transition into the Celtic side.

Adept going forward – he registered four goal contributions last season – he is a ruthless defender as well.

McCann produced 2.7 successful tackles per game for his club, a number that added to the impressive 3.5 challenges per match in the Nations League for Northern Ireland. For context, both of those numbers are higher than any other player at Celtic over the last 12 months.

Furthermore, he is a strong reader of the play, registering 1.5 interceptions per outing. The only players who registered larger numbers in that area were Jonjoe Kenny and Nir Bitton.

With that in mind, it’s hard to deny the midfielder wouldn’t be an upgrade for Postecoglou this season.

Calm in possession, the all-action McCann is somebody the Australian could build his team around for years to come. With so much potential, supporters should be mightily excited if Celtic can lure him to Glasgow.

AND in other news, Ange can fix big Celtic issue by signing £4m gem who’s been “outstanding” at Euro 2020…

Gers urged to sign Osayi-Samuel

According to Kevin Campbell, Bright Osayi-Samuel would do brilliantly at Glasgow Rangers were he to make the move to Ibrox.

The Lowdown: Osayi-Samuel to leave Fenerbahce

Osayi-Samuel made the move to Fenerbahce in Turkey from QPR in January, but it appears he may already be leaving the club.

Fener are looking to make £15m from player sales, and they are hoping to get £3m for Osayi-Samuel. He has been linked with a switch to Ibrox.

The Latest: Campbell urges Gers to sign winger

Speaking to Football Insider, Campbell has urged the Gers to sign the 23-year-old. He said:

“I think he would be a good signing at £3million.

“He is a player who has been long-linked with Rangers. They have clearly been coveting him for a while.

“A player of that quality for £3million is cheap money. Even though the transfer market in Scotland is different, that is cheap. I think that is about right for a player with a lot still to come.

“He has got bags of pace, he is direct and he is a threat. I think he would do brilliantly in Scotland.”

The Verdict: Worth a punt

Since making the move to Turkey, things have not gone fantastically well for Osayi-Samuel. He has managed just one goal and one assist for the club in 19 appearances (Transfermarkt) and, given Fenerbahce are already considering moving him on, he clearly hasn’t made too big an impact.

However, as he showed with five goals and nine assists in the Championship during the 2019/20 campaign he has plenty of ability and can be a danger down the flank.

At 23 years of age, he has 19 goals throughout his senior career and has plenty of time to improve as well. For Steven Gerrard and co, he may just be worth a punt at a measly £3m.

In other news, Rangers have also been urged to sign this young Dutchman.

Holding claims to have been misquoted over Muralitharan issue

Former West Indies fast bowler Michael Holding has denied accusing Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralitharan of having an illegal bowling action.Holding, an International Cricket Council (ICC) appointed bowling advisor, was quoted in Wisden Asia Cricket Monthly as saying that he was in "110 per cent agreement" with Bishen Bedi, who accused Muralitharan of having an illegal action. His support for Bedi raised a furore in Sri Lanka, forcing the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka (BCCSL) to make a formal complaint to the ICC.But Holding, who is currently in South Africa working as a television commentator in the ongoing series between Australia and South Africa, has denied questioning the legitimacy of Muralitharan’s bowling action, claiming he has been misquoted in a letter to BCCSL chief executive Anura Tennekoon.Vijaya Malasekera, chairman of the Sri Lankan Board, is expected to take up the matter of Muralitharan’s action at the ICC executive meeting in Cape Town. The Board is perplexed that, despite three separate scientific analyses between 1996 and 1999, all of which concluded that his arm did not straighten at the point of delivery, and being cleared by the ICC twice, there are still allegations being made that his action is illegal.Comments made by Bob Woolmer, the ICC’s high performance manager, who said he uses "excessive wrist action which is only possible with a straightening of the arm" in same edition of the magazine has also annoyed the Sri Lankan Cricket Board.
